What is a Detox?
18 Jun 2009 |
You are what you eat, drink and breath! Over time, the body gets weighed down with a toxic load which prevent it from functioning optimally. A focused detox can relieve symptoms, kick start weight loss and provide more energy.
You are what you eat!
We can’t help but take toxins into our bodies. They are in the foods we eat, air we breath, water we drink and the way we live. Most often your body doesn’t know what to do with them so they get stored away in cells and tissues within your lungs, kidneys, bloodstream, heart, brain, colon, liver, and skin. At the point that your body can no longer store them, the body reacts with illness, allergies, weight gain, headache, low energy and other symptoms that we all take for granted. When we are carrying a significant toxic load, we can develop chronic conditions and degenerative diseases such as Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Cancer.
The BENEFITS of Detoxification include:
- Weight Loss
- Restoring your energy
- Improving metabolism
- Relieving skin problems
- Eliminating constipation
- Improving or eliminating digestive disorders
- Improving or eliminating headaches
- Clearer thought process
- Reduced cholesterol
- Mood stabilization
- PMS relief
- Improving or eliminating aches and pains
- Eliminate fluid retention
- Clearing up mouth sores
WHAT are toxins?
Toxins are herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, heavy metals (mercury, lead, aluminum), cellular debris, parasites, nitrate fertilizers, preservatives, food additives, MSG, caffeine, cleaning chemicals and food chemicals, pollution, drugs, alcohol, nicotine, arsenic, cyanide, chemical hormones, prescription drugs, and any other poisonous substance or irritant that prevents your body from functioning optimally.
HOW do you detoxify?
There are many ways to detoxify your organs through food, exercise, breathing, and relaxation on a daily basis. It is recommended that you take your body through a more focused detoxification, like this “Spring Cleaning” a few times per year. Each time, your body becomes cleaner, giving you the opportunity to reduce or eliminate troubling symptoms of chronic conditions.
Here are some of the basics of how your body already detoxifies:
Colon – Eliminates waste such as water, mucus, undigested food, cellular debris, and bacteria.
Liver – Is the 2nd biggest organ after the skin, has many critical responsibilities and is most forgiving of all of our organs. It is responsible for:
- making the substances needed to break down what we put into our body
- breaks up poisonous substances, toxins
- helps regulate blood sugar, stores glycogen and releases glucose into blood
Lungs – Takes in oxygen and other materials and sends them off to different areas – oxygen to the blood and waste is either stored or eliminated.
Kidneys- Cleanses the blood and expels excess water, salts and hormones
Lymphatic System – Is considered to be the river of life whereby it carries waste and excess fluids to elimination. Lymph nodes filter the river and eliminate microorganisms and prevent them from entering the bloodstream
Skin – Is the largest organ in the body and is the best indication of what is going on inside your body! Skin protects our organs, veins, etc.., synthesizes Vitamin D and eliminates toxins through sweat.
Some other things you can do to help it detoxify:
- Dry Skin Brushing
- Hot/Cold Showers
- Tongue Scraping
- Epsom Salt Baths
- Massage
- Detoxifying Body Wraps
- Ionic Foot Baths
